Dr. Jorge de la Pedraja is a board-certified plastic surgeon who is located in Coral Gables and proudly serves patients from Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Miami, Miami Beach, Pinecrest, and other areas of South Florida.

Dr. de le Pedraja’s patients sometimes ask for things he cannot deliver. Rather than accepting every case, he will reason with them and thoroughly explain his viewpoint. Valuing his patients’ safety and well-being first, Dr. de la Pedraja will turn down patients if the procedure does not serve their best interest.
I am a people person. I spend a lot of time with my patients, pre and postop. I will try and make patients and their families as calm and relaxed as possible. Everyone is treated like family, exactly how I would want to be treated if I or any family member was the patient.
Dr. de la Pedraja’s World-Class Education and Training
A Miami native, Dr. de la Pedraja attended the University of Miami where he received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in biology and chemistry. He then attended Georgetown University, obtaining a Master of Science (MS) degree, and the University of Kansas for his Medical Degree (MD).
Returning to Miami, Dr. de la Pedraja trained in general surgery and plastic/reconstructive surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He acted as chief resident in both general and plastic/reconstructive surgery. Dr. de la Pedraja continued to pursue his interest in aesthetic and breast surgery with additional specialized fellowship training with the world renowned Dr. Scott Spear at Georgetown University Hospital.
Certifications, Memberships, and Community Service
Dr. de la Pedraja is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Additionally, he maintains membership with the Miami Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. de la Pedraja has published a number of papers on plastic surgery and stays current with the latest trends by regularly attending both local and national plastic surgery meetings.
He is also actively involved in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast following breast cancer and has helped many women in their battle against breast cancer. Every October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. de la Pedraja gives several lectures on breast cancer reconstruction.

A Conversation with Dr. de la Pedraja
I was exposed to medicine at a very young age. My father is a doctor, and I would accompany him to work every weekend. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a doctor.
My dad is a radiologist, and I was exposed to medicine at an early age. I felt a more hands-on approach was what I preferred, which led me to surgery.
When I started med school, I knew I wanted to specialize in some type of surgery. The first week, we were asked if we wanted to be teamed up with either medicine or surgery. I picked surgery and was sent to a community plastic surgeon, and I loved it. I was sold on the mix of cosmetic and reconstruction surgery.
I like to make people happy. There are so many facets of plastic surgery to keep you excited about the profession. Whether it’s reconstructing someone for trauma or cancer or enhancing someone for cosmetic reasons, it’s all quite fulfilling.
It is best if they are informed about what they are coming in for.
If not, they come in, and I will give them all the info they desire. I may spend 30-60 min with them.
I will always be honest and transparent with my patients on what I can deliver. I may tell them it’s too much surgery for one day. We may have to stage the procedures. It is not always what they want to hear, but it is what is right.
