Botox & Dysport in Miami, Fl – Gables Plastic Surgery

Everyday facial expressions such as frowning, smiling, and laughing are a normal part of life. However, this regular aspect of daily living can lead to wrinkles and fine lines, especially above and around the eyes and on either side of the mouth. These unwelcome features tend to make you look more tired, older, or less healthy than you truly feel.

Botox® or Dysport® are effective, non-invasive treatments that can rectify these signs of aging and help you look years younger.

Gables Plastic Surgery is dedicated to providing clients in the Miami area with a relaxing facility to receive effective cosmetic care. For more information about our practice or are interested in scheduling a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jorge de la Pedraja, contact our office today.

What Can Botox & Dysport Be Used To Treat?

Botox/Dysport are derived from botulinum toxin and used to treat dynamic wrinkles resulting from the repeated facial movements while smiling, frowning, or squinting.

Some of the most common dynamic (moving) wrinkles for which patients seek treatment include:

  • Frown lines and the “number 11” lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Horizontal “worry lines” across the forehead
  • Sagging brow areas
  • Smile lines
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Downturned corners of the mouth
  • Droopy jawlines
  • Gummy Smile where the upper lip rests high on the gums
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Wrinkling on the neck

How Does a Botox / Dysport Treatment Work?

Botox/Dysport corrects dynamic wrinkles by targeting their source caused by muscle movement. As it’s created with a highly purified protein, the injectable relaxes the muscles, allowing the wrinkles and lines supported by them to soften and smooth temporarily.

Your treatment has the following three phases:

Before Treatment

In preparation for your Botox/Dysport treatment, you’ll need to avoid all blood thinners, including supplements, fish oil, Vitamin E for 3-6 days, as well as drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, and Advil. Dr. de la Pedraja will provide more detail about this during your initial consultation.

During Treatment

Dr. de la Pedraja will be highly precise with your injections to give you the best and most natural-looking results possible with the least amount of product. More Botox/Dysport can be administered after two weeks if you feel it’s needed.

Treatment usually takes 10—30 minutes, where you’ll receive several injections in each area being treated. There will be minimal discomfort — some patients experience mild pressure in the targeted area, although this quickly subsides.

After Treatment

Minimal downtime or recovery is necessary after your Botox/Dysport injections. You should be able to get back to your regular routine immediately after leaving our office, including exercising and returning to work. However, it is best to refrain from vigorous activity for the first 24 hours after surgery, as this could lead to bruising and swelling.

There may be some swelling or redness in the treated areas in the days following treatment, but this usually goes away within days of the treatment.

You probably won’t notice the results for the first 24—48 hours after treatment. After about a week, you’ll see noticeably visible results that will continue to improve for up to a month.

What Can I Expect From a Botox or Dysport Treatment?

Although Botox/Dysport treatments may be slightly uncomfortable, they typically are completed in 20 minutes or less. Once treatment is complete, patients can return to their regular routine with no downtime and no post-procedure care.

Like any cosmetic treatment, patients can experience mild side effects after treatment. These include:

  • Rash or itching
  • Neck or back pain
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Swelling or bruising

Since the results of Botox/Dysport treatment typically last for no more than six months, repeated injections are necessary to maintain any changes.

What Are the Benefits of Botox/Dysport Treatment in Miami, FL?

While the primary benefit of being treated with Botox/Dysport is the temporary reduction of wrinkles and lines, the treatment itself also has other advantages:

  • Completely non-surgical procedure
  • Administered in quick, convenient appointments
  • Treatment that is not painful
  • Results that are almost immediately evident
  • Requires no downtime
  • Results that can last for several months

In addition to addressing dynamic wrinkles, Botox can also be used to cure excessive sweating, migraine headaches, and eye and neck muscle spasms.

How Long Does Botox/Dysport Last?

In most cases, the results of Botox/Dysport injections can last up to 3-4 months. With every patient being different, however, the exact length of time the results will last depends on several factors:

Generally, the more units of Botox that are injected into an area, the longer the results will last.

Firm facial muscles in a target area may be more resistant to the paralyzing function of the Botox treatment, and as a result, more may need to be injected to achieve the desired results.

With follow-up Botox injection treatments at Gables Plastic Surgery, your results can last even longer than the average 3-4 months. Some patients can enjoy results for up to 6-8 months on a consistent follow-up schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox in Miami

Botox and Dysport are  neuromodulators of botulinum toxin type A injected into targeted areas with an ultra-fine needle. It functions by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract, and it’s this repetitive contraction that results in expression lines and wrinkles. Once injected, the neuromodulator relaxes the muscles and decreases their movement to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles in the targeted area.

Botox can be used to address lines and wrinkles on different facial areas: typically forehead, between the brows (the famous 11 lines) eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may be injected to soften the dimpling of the chin. Botox can also be injected into the muscles of the jaw to help alleviate pain from teeth grinding or TMJ or achieve a jaw slimming effect.

Botox treatments are quick and completed with minimal discomfort and require no anesthesia or recovery time.

Most patients report a brief period of discomfort during the injection, but this does not persist once the procedure is complete.

While each patient’s experience may differ, it usually takes 2-3 days to see the effects of Botox/Dysport. For some, it may take up to two weeks to realize the final results.

The results of Botox typically last between 3-4 months. Over time the body metabolizes the Botox, resulting in the slow return of muscle movement to the treatment area. Patients may choose to undergo periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months to maintain their Botox results for more prolonged periods.

While some patients may wonder if they are too young or too old for Botox, there is no ideal age to start receiving Botox injections. Many millennials have started using Botox in their twenties when they first start noticing lines and wrinkles or even as a preventative measure; this is commonly referred to as “baby botox”.

Yes, Botox is an FDA-approved treatment for reversing lines and wrinkles. However, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or with certain neurological diseases should not receive Botox treatments.

A week before treatment, patients may be advised to stop consuming alcohol or taking medications or supplements that thin the blood to minimize bruising after the procedure.

Side effects from a Botox treatment may include swelling, bruising, redness, or tenderness around the injection site. All of these will resolve without intervention after a few days to a week.
